There's a quote that I love by Naomi Wolf and she is the author of The Beauty Myth. The quote is, "Dieting is the most potent form of political sedative in history. A quietly mad population is a tractable one." And so, that quote is so powerful for me because it helps me to not diet. Because it reminds me about where my mind was when I was dieting.

So think about when we're dieting. We're consumed with the act of dieting, the act of what we're going to eat, what we're not going to eat, how much we're going to exercise, how many calories have we burned, how many steps have we taken. And our mind is just wasting all of this mental energy on this shit that doesn't matter.

And so, how much mental energy do you think that we have to do important stuff? To rise up. To live the life that we actually want to live. To focus on the things that are important to us. Hardly any energy is left. Dieting makes us so tired. And so that quote is saying, dieting keeps you small. And the ironic thing is it keeps you small in the way that you participate in the world and it doesn't actually keep your body small. Because as we know, diets don't work. Actually dieting makes you bigger. And so it keeps you small in regards to focusing on something that doesn't matter, that's not important in the world and in your life.

I want you to take this quote and internalize it. And anytime you're thinking, maybe I should diet, think about the things you actually want in life. Why are you thinking that you want to diet? Can you get those things in other ways that's not dieting? What's actually important to you? Why not pursue those things? I don't know, it could be spending time with family, it could be watching shit on Netflix, it could be taking over the world. But you can do it. If you're not dieting.
