What is coaching?

“Coaching is a form of development in which an experienced person, called a coach, supports a learner or client in achieving a specific personal or professional goal by providing training and guidance. The learner is sometimes called a coachee.” ←- That is what Wikipedia says about coaching. And yeah, that’s pretty much hitting the nail on the head!

The difference between a coaching relationship versus anything else is that you will be working with someone who has done the thing. I have gone from hating my body to thinking it’s pretty cool. I have gone from having a disordered relationship with food to being an intuitive eater. I have been there and will COACH you on how to improve your relationship with your body and food (like I have already done with many other humans).

I will be able to shine a flashlight (or torch if you’re a smelly Brit like me) on the areas in your life that are clearly holding you back from body acceptance and give you the map on how to get from feeling totally disgusting in your body to a place where….you just don’t think about it that much...really.

People make the same mistakes over and over and as someone who has coached others through it, I can see them rather easily. It may be my superpower?! Or maybe not...it’s just that I have a different vantage point than those who are in the trenches and together we can solve this puzzle!

Why go on this journey alone when you can have me by your side cheering you on, commiserating with you, getting mad when you tell me how you’ve experienced fatphobia that week, and celebrating your wonderful achievements?

About coaching:

I am delighted to enter into a coach and coachee relationship with you! All coaching sessions are conducted online through the secure platform, Zoom. All sessions are recorded and you will be given access to the recording should you ever want to review the session. Book your session using the link above.

The coaching relationship:

The purpose of the coaching relationship is to support the coachee to achieve their goals. The coach and coachee will first come to an agreement about the nature of coaching. Coaching is a non-therapeutic intervention intended for coachees who wish to enhance their performance or improve their personal situation. Either the coachee or the coach is able to exit the coaching relationship without giving any reason, subject to appropriate notice being given.

Coachee’s responsibilities:

  • To attend coaching sessions as agreed

  • To select topics for discussion

  • To set and pursue meaningful goals

Coach’s responsibilities

  • To manage the coaching process (including timekeeping)

  • To maintain confidentiality (subject to certain exemptions)

Session details:

The coachee and coach will meet for 1 session, each lasting for no longer than 50 minutes. (Unless further sessions are booked).

Sessions need to be scheduled within 6 months of starting coaching with Alissa. After 6 months the session will be forfeited and will no longer be able to be used.

Rescheduling coaching sessions:

Coaching sessions can be rescheduled by either the coachee or the coach with 48 hours notice. Rescheduling outside of this timeframe by the coachee will mean the coaching session is forfeited.

1st coaching sessions can be booked by clicking here.

2nd sessions onwards can be booked by clicking here.

Benefits of Coaching

From Positive Psychologycoaches pay particular attention to assisting clients to identify their strengths. Coachees learn to explore and develop them as a means to achieve their goals, and also to cultivate positive emotions (Moore, et al., 2016). Generating positive emotions leads to what Fredrickson (2013) calls, “an upward spiral.”

In her landmark work, she identified ten positive emotions:

  1. inspiration

  2. hope

  3. pride

  4. interest

  5. love

  6. awe

  7. amusement

  8. joy

  9. gratitude

  10. serenity

Coaching creates the space for clients to build on these emotions and flourish.”

I have been a coach and coachee for many years and can honestly say those relationships have changed my life. Being able to stop wasting time, energy and money on the futile hope that I could be thin was (and still is!) revolutionary! What would YOU do instead if you didn’t have to think about things that aren’t helpful?

What to expect

Pick a time that suits you for our 2 coaching sessions. I suggest booking them 2 - 4 weeks apart. When booking your 1st session you will fill out a simple form telling me where you’re at and what you want to get out of coaching. We have different links for session 1 and 2 as in session 2 you don’t need to fill out that intake form again.

Our session will be conducted on Zoom and will be recorded for you to keep forever - that way you can go back and be reminded of the concepts we talk about. If you don’t want it recorded then that’s absolutely fine. I will ask you on the 1st session your preference :)

During the session, you will be in charge of what topics we cover. What’s on your mind at the moment? What are you struggling with? How can I help? We will talk about it! I’ll ask you questions to see what are your biggest obstacles currently.

I’ll give you advice and will ask you questions to challenge your thought patterns. I may ask you if you want to set goals around doing things that are meaningful in this journey, or not. You may just want to spend 50 minutes ranting about your Aunt Cherylynn who is a total fatphobic donkey. It’s all perfect!

Above all else, our sessions are a safe space where you will not be judged for your body size, or what you ate or didn’t eat. Our time together is a respite away from the outside fatphobic world, a place where you can be you.

What topics can we cover?

  • Learning to love and accept your body

  • Unlearning fatphobic beliefs

  • Body neutrality

  • How to stop dieting

  • Setting boundaries with fatphobes or dieters

  • Unlearning diet culture beliefs

  • How to practice bravery

  • Why am I so mad that my favourite fat celeb has lost weight

  • How to tell weird uncle Keith to fuck off with his keto Facebook posts

Who the heck are you?

Oh hey! I haven’t introduced myself yet. In case you don’t know me, I am Victoria Founder of Fierce Fatty. I am an anti-diet, pro-fatty body acceptance coach, TEDx speaker, best-selling author, podcast host and creator of Fierce Fatty Academy. I am nonbinary and my pronouns are they/them.

I have been doing this work for 7 years now, which is frightening how quickly time moves.

I trained to be a coach with Essential Impact, an International Coaching Federation (ICF) approved program.

But my coaching experience started way before being trained in it. It has always been my personality type to want to help others and share what I know. When I see people struggling to find a solution to their issue and I know that solution you better believe I am gonna share my expertise.

I think it’s because I needed that when I was young. Being fat as a child is hard, add to that poverty, food insecurity, an alcoholic dad, homelessness, and abuse...well things were pretty hopeless for me for a long time. It was other people who believed in me and that spark I had inside of me that helped me see that things could be different for me.

I want to be able to do that for you, hold a mirror up and show you what I see. Show you what really is possible for you...even if you’re not thin, or look “perfect” or have saggy boobs, or if your belly hangs.

You don’t need to feel less than for who you are. Let’s work on it together and overcome those feelings that are not helpful and sometimes plain frustrating.

What times are available?

I am normally free for sessions Monday to Thursday 10am - 6pm PST (Pacific Standard Time - West Coast North America). The earlier you book the more time options are available. Our sessions will be 50 minutes long (unless you book 2 and want to do them back to back then they will be 1 hour 40 long).

Please note

I am not a therapist or a nutritionist, although I am a trained coach. If you think you may have an eating disorder or other mental health issue please contact a mental health professional as I am not equipped to deal with your needs. I cannot guarantee any specific outcome from coaching with me.
